Developing Sustainable Aquaculture in the Atlantic – A Side Event at the All-Atlantic 2021

This event was carried out on June 3rd, 2021 in the framework of the All-Atlantic 2021 – All-Atlantic R&I for a Sustainable Ocean: Ministerial High-Level & Stakeholders Conference, held in Ponta Delgada, Portugal 2-4 June 2021. The Side Event took place virtually and had a total number of 100 registered participants from 27 different countries.

During this event were discussed the challenges and opportunities in trans-Atlantic research collaboration and the development of a sustainable Atlantic aquaculture industry. Two H2020 projects AquaVitae and ASTRAL shared experiences and best practices based on their research toward more sustainable aquaculture activities in the Belém Statement areas.

As a third aspect of this side event, the AANChOR Joint Action: “Initiation toward a Brazilian Aquaculture Technology & Innovation Platform as the first step towards an All-Atlantic Aquaculture Platform” was presented by EATiP – the European Aquaculture Technology & Innovation Platform.

This joint event organised by the projects AquaVitae, ASTRAL and EATiP was possible thanks to the common goal of these initiatives, which is to develop, support and promote sustainable aquaculture in the Atlantic area, by establishing best farming practices, technology development and innovation. The engagement of stakeholders and society is one of the main priorities to reach this goal and therefore cooperation and joint work are needed.

The work presented and discussed is in line with the recently adopted strategic guidelines for sustainable and competitive aquaculture, which contributes directly to the European Green Deal.

The agenda of the side event can be consulted under this link and the full recording of the event is available below:
