ASTRAL Apprenticeship

We are very proud of the completion of the ASTRAL Project Apprenticeship program carried out in Nigeria from March 25th to April 18th 2024, as part of ASTRAL activities under WP1 ‘Collaborative Ecosystem for Aquaculture in the Atlantic’ led by the AIR Centre - Atlantic International Research Centre.

This 4-week apprenticeship programme took place thanks to the coordination of AIR Centre and NIOMR Lagos. It was focused on unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions in Nigeria, who received different lectures focused on sustainable aquaculture, IMTA, ocean literacy and circular economy and carried out field activities such as a visit to the NIOMR Aquaculture Farm, Shrimp Laboratory and Jetty, visit to NIOMR Research Vessel, and visit to SEJ Farms in Badagry in Lagos (focus on IMTA).

This is the culmination of the ASTRAL Human Capital Development Plan in which we have worked for the last 4 years aiming to improve professional skills in the Blue Economy sector in the Atlantic.
